Norman Sibbald
Bringing history to life
About Norman Sibbald
Since retiring from a career in engineering which started with an apprenticeship in Scotland, I can now finally devote all my time to my lifelong passion for WWII history. My time in my profession took me all over the UK and abroad and now I am replicating that travel as a Battlefield Guide.
Reading Cornelius Ryan’s book The Last Battle totally captivated me during my school years and now all these years later I still recall it with fondness each time I visit Berlin.
Having the privilege to take passengers to places they have always wanted to go to is such a rewarding experience for me as a Battlefield Guide.
I am married with three children and two grandchildren.
Speciality
WWII Battlefields, Berlin and Air War Europe.
Favourite Tour
Probably Air War Europe as it was the first tour I did for Leger but I have to say each tour has many of my ‘favourite’ places of interest well covered.
Interests
Reading and researching WWII military history. Watching football.
I Would Recommend
Air War Europe is one of these tours that includes some iconic, landmark images of WWII – The Mohne and Eder Dams, Colditz Castle and Stalagluft III, site of the Great Escape. A visit to Berlin is also included where passengers have the opportunity to walk in the city the brought WWII to a final ferocious and crushing end.
My Most Memorable Experience
I have many but each tour has that memorable moment when I can stand in front of my group for the first time and make them feel a part of a site or scene of great historical significance.
