Tour Introduction

The 1st July 2026 marks the 110th Anniversary of the Battle of the Somme, one of the defining battles of the Great War and a turning point in British history. Heralded as the ‘Big Push’, in one day alone more than 57,000 men became casualties, and in a battle that lasted 141 days it would become the graveyard of the Pals, of Kitchener’s Army. Join us as we travel to the haunting Somme battlefields and attend the ceremony at Thiepval on the anniversary.

Local departure by coach or Door-to-Door service, then to our hotel in Belgium or northern France for a four-night stay.

Jun 30 - Gommecourt & Serre

Today we visit the battlefields of the Somme, where the 1916 battle took place and the British and Commonwealth forces lost over 450,000 casualties. We start at Gommecourt in the northern area, then visit Serre where the ‘Pals’ fought at the beginning of the operations.

After our lunch period in Albert, we visit Beaumont-Hamel and finish in the Ovillers and La Boisselle area.

Jul 1 - Somme 110th Anniversary

Today is the 110th Anniversary of the battle and we attend a commemoration event at the Thiepval Memorial, and any local events in the Albert area. We will also visit 1st July sites at Fricourt, Mametz and Montauban.

Jul 2 - High Wood, Delville Wood & Guillemont

We continue our look at the Somme Battlefields of 1916, examining the fighting beyond 1st July. We visit Mametz Wood, High Wood and Delville Wood, as well as the battlefields around Guillemont and Flers.
