The Dambusters Raid of May 1943 was one of the most iconic air operations of the Second World War. We honour the sacrifice of Guy Gibson VC and his crews who flew in the mission, on the 80th Anniversary of Operation Chastise.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1

Make your own way to our hotel in the Sheffield area, where you will be staying for the night.

Day 2 - Derwent Dam – Bomber Comand Memorial

We head to Derwent Dam in the Peak District, where the Dambusters operated training flights because of its resemblance to the German dams, before travelling to Lincoln to visit the International Bomber Command Memorial overlooking the city. We continue to our hotel in the Cambridge area.

Day 3 - RAF Hendon – Reculver

Today, we visit the RAF Museum in Hendon to see an original Lancaster Bomber, before viewing the area at Reculver in Kent where bouncing bomb testing took place. From here, we travel to France and continue to Antwerp for an overnight stay.

Day 4 - Guy Gibson's Grave – 80th Anniversary

Today, we see the grave of Dambusters’ leader Guy Gibson VC, killed in a crash in a Mosquito in 1944, and more Dambusters’ graves at Bergen op Zoom, before continuing to our hotel in the Dortmund/Wuppertal area of Germany for two nights. As today is the 80th Anniversary of the Raid, after dinner this evening we visit the Möhne Dam at the time the attack took place in 1943, returning to our hotel late this evening.

Day 5 - Dambusters 80th Anniversary

Today, on 17th May – the continuation of the 80th Anniversary – we return to the Dams attacked in the raid, also seeing the small museum at the Eder Dam.

Day 6 - Rheinberg & Reichswald War Cemeteries

We travel across Germany and visit the graves of Dambuster crews in Rheinberg War Cemetery and Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, before having an overnight stay in the Arnhem area.

Day 7

You will stay for one night at the four-star Hotel Mercure Sheffield Kenwood Hall & Spa in Sheffield, Yorkshire. You will then stay for one night at the four-star Cambridge Belfry Hotel & Spa in Cambourne, Cambridgeshire.

Join your tour coach at the interchange.

On most tours if you’d prefer to join your tour coach at Stop 24 services, you can park your car in the car park which is accredited by the Park Mark safer parking scheme and is monitored 24 hours a day by CCTV. Payment for the parking is made on arrival using the self-service machines.

Excludes tours to Ireland and the U.K. and tours travelling via Brittany Ferries.

Door-to-Door service

On Battlefield tours of 7 days’ duration or more, you don’t even have to think about getting to your local joining point. Our Door-to-Door Service collects you from your home and takes you to meet your transfer vehicile, then brings you back at the end of the holiday. Door-to-Door Service is available within a 20-mile radius of one of our free joining points and is from £90 per car, return (up to 4 passengers per vehicle).
