Tour Introduction

Join us in Mons as we commemorate the 1944 liberation of the city. The town is filled with World War 2 vehicles, from tanks and jeeps, to military lorries and amphibious vehicles, making it a spectacle for all to enjoy. On this battlefield tour, we also spend a day in the Ardennes at Bastogne, where we visit the locations connected to the Battle of the Bulge, as well as museums and memorials in the area.

Tour Itinerary

Aug 26

Local departure by coach, then to Belgium for a three-night stay.

Aug 27 - Bastogne

We begin this morning in the area west of Mons where the Tanks in Town association will have a tank and vehicle display, plus a large militaria fair selling military memorabilia, and we shall see one of the vehicle convoys depart (Entry to this is 10€ per person). Tank rides are also available here from the organisers. We will remain here for the lunch period and then depart for the Ardennes Battlefields and look at the ‘Battle of the Bulge’. We start at the British Cemetery at Hotton and then go to Foy and look at the story of Easy Company – the ‘Band of Brothers’ – during the fighting here in 1944. We then visit the Bastogne War Museum (Entrance approx. 20€ per person) and see the Mardasson Memorial. We stay in Bastogne, with free-time for an evening meal, before returning to our hotel in Mons.

Aug 28 - Mons

Today we go to a village just outside Mons to watch the arrival of the parade of Military vehicles and tanks, as well as re-enactors, see a static display and then go to the Tanks in Town event at Chateau Warelles where there will be vehicle parades, a memorial service and static displays. Later we go to the Mons Memorial Museum to see the memorial to the US 1st Division who fought at Mons in 1944, see the special military displays here, and then into central Mons where the Tanks in Town event will end with a static display in the main square and later departure from the town. You will have additional free-time in Mons to relax and have an evening meal before we return to our hotel.

Day 1

Day 3 - Mons: Tanks in Town

Today we attend further Tanks in Town events and then later we go to the Mons Memorial Museum to see the memorial to the US 1st Division who fought at Mons in 1944, see the special military displays here, and then into central Mons where the Tanks in Town event will end with a static display in the main square and later departure from the town. You will have additional free-time in Mons to relax and have an evening meal before we return to our hotel.
